The 19th Mid-Term Ministerial Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), which commenced on Monday, October 13, with a senior officials' session in Kampala, concluded its proceedings with the active presence of a high-level delegation from the Islamic Republic of Iran, headed by Foreign Minister Dr. Seyed Abbas Araghchi. Held under the theme “Deepening Cooperation for Shared Global Affluence” and attended by representatives from 120 member states, the summit served as a platform for extensive consultations to amplify the voice of developing nations in managing global shifts. During the opening ceremony, General Jeje Odongo, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uganda and current Chair of the Movement, underscored the necessity of full solidarity with the Palestinian cause and the creation of a united front for a collective response to international trends. In his address to the plenary session, Dr. Araghchi expressed his sincere gratitude to the government and people of Uganda for their warm hospitality, while reaffirming Iran’s principled commitment to international law and the necessity of multilateralism as the only path to sustainable peace. He provided a detailed explanation of Iran's positions regarding recent diplomatic pressures, characterizing the efforts by the United States and the three European countries (E3) to reinstate expired UN Security Council resolutions as illegal and a flagrant violation of Resolution 2231. The Foreign Minister asserted that, given the expiration of this resolution’s mandate on October 18 of the current year, any attempt to revive rescinded sanctions lacks legal merit and serves merely as a tool for political blackmail. He called upon NAM members to stand against these legal aberrations and convey a message to the world that independent nations will not surrender to such pressures. A significant portion of the Foreign Minister’s remarks was dedicated to the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza. Dr. Araghchi described the current situation as the most brutal genocidal campaign in modern history, resulting in the martyrdom of over 70,000 innocent Palestinians. He identified the Zionist regime as the primary party responsible for these atrocities and described Western governments, particularly the United States, as accomplices in these tragedies. Emphasizing the legitimate right of the Palestinian people to struggle against apartheid and colonialism, he noted that any peace plan failing to recognize the right to self-determination for the Palestinian people is destined for failure. Furthermore, he cited the Zionist regime’s repeated military aggressions against neighboring countries, including the act of aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran in June, as clear examples of international bullying, calling for these crimes to be documented and monitored through legal mechanisms to ensure justice. On the sidelines of the two-day summit, Dr. Araghchi held a series of bilateral meetings and consultations with his counterparts from Myanmar, Cuba, Venezuela, Tunisia, Algeria, Belarus, Uganda, Mozambique, and Mali. During these discussions, the participants emphasized the vital importance of strengthening South-South cooperation and enhancing coordination within international organizations to address shared challenges.
